Water Harvesting

Accessing water is a major challenge for Kenyan farmers; many depending 100% on rain-fed agriculture.  M.E.D.F. has always advocated and trained farmers to construct affordable in-ground poly-lined water tanks to harvest and conserve this scarce resource.

The poly-lined tanks resemble the model of a lined dam/fishpond and can be modified incapacity to hold 5,000 to 10,000 litres each. They are ideal for roof catchment or runoff water. When installed on a gradient, the water can be tapped to flow by gravity. The water harvesting tank shown above was always a highlight for visitors touring the Teaching Farm.
