The East African Digital Farmers Conference and Exhibition 2018 (EADFC)

Enabling Farming through ICT & Innovation

Kenya Agriculture & Livestock Research Organisation (KALRO) and the Smart Farmer Africa will host the first digital farmers’ conference and exhibition in East Africa 2018. The theme is “Enabling farming through ICT & Innovation”. The event will be held on the 29th – 31st May 2018, at the Kenya Agriculture & Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) Headquarters grounds in Nairobi County.

This event is expected to: Empower smallholder farmers and their value chains on new and existing ICT innovations as well as to:

  • Highlight gains in the ICT sector that are fostering growth in agribusiness and food security in the East Africa Region
  • Identify opportunities for sustaining gains and furthering geographical and technological scope in ICT for agricultural development
  • Bring together stakeholders in e-agriculture to augment efforts and avoid duplication for better utilization of resources
  • Recommend actionable points for follow up with various stakeholders and identify their roles for better cohesion in the sector

The inaugural East Africa Digital Farmers Conference and Exhibition will bring together government ministries, international development agencies, small and medium holder farmers, local and international investors, knowledge institutions, farmer groups and associations, the public and over 150 firms in agriculture, technology, investment, finance and banking. The conference stands to provide a platform for networking and knowledge sharing on how to best harness the power of technology in agriculture.

We envisage digital driven farming geared towards the agricultural industry in Africa that is currently experiencing a transformation through the increased adoption of technology on different frontiers.

Through the digitization of agriculture, farmers can:  have easy access to markets, accurately predict the weather, enjoy superior seed quality and minimize crop wastage during harvesting and storage.
